Musk Ox is a Canadian Neofolk project formed by guitarist Nathanaël Larochette, now featuring members Raphael Weinroth- Browne (cello) and Evan Runge (violin). With two full-length albums, three self-recorded demos and two compilation appearances to their name, Musk Ox has established itself as a creative force in the world of Neofolk.

More than 30,000 years ago, around the last ice age, they would have been a relatively common sight – wandering across the northern regions of Norway and Sweden alongside wooly rhinoceros and mammoths. When the musk oxen get attacked it stands totally still in a circle with the youngsters in the middle. The last attempt to reintroduce musk ox to Norway from Greenland was between 1947 and 1953. The journey begun with 27 musk ox calves, but only 10 survived and was reintroduced at Dovrefjells nationalpark.
